Digital Dentistry and Clinical Results – A review of the total solutions approach (Dr. Vincent Prestipino)
Dentistry is on a strong and expected pathway of change in the way dental treatment is performed. Not only the improvements of the latest implant designs, but the numerous technologies of 3D imaging and modeling, CBCT imaging and CAD/CAM production abilities have added to this movement. Yet, the cooperative efforts of the blending of these verified developments generate an opportunity where the total is greater than the sum of its parts. This presentation will highlight a private practice-based experience centered on this innovative frontier: digitally enhanced treatment. Many components of the digital workflow including digital image capturing, treatment planning using merged datasets, guided implant surgery and CAD/CAM restorative design will be presented in the perspective of their current boundaries and the prospect for proficient and expectable esthetic and functional results. The goal of treatment accomplishment is founded upon the attentive use of these technologies to an individual patient‘s particular needs.
Contemporary Prosthetics including All-ceramics & Dental Implant Systems (Dr. Urs Brodbeck)
The search for tooth colored and metal-free restorations is one of the major challenges in dental research. Nowadays the clinician has a big variety of different ceramic products available to restore his patients metal free, to satisfy high esthetic demands or to work in a noninvasive way that preserves natural tooth structure. Sintered ceramics, pressable ceramics and high strength ceramics such zirconia are described and critically discussed. In implantology, estorations in the anterior, aesthetic zone present significant challenges in both the surgical and prosthetic phases of implant dentistry. Many types of implants require trans-mucosal abutments to retain implant restorations. Ceramics may be the ideal material to replace natural teeth, while most transmucosal abutments are made of titanium. Ceramics may also be used as abutments in implant restorations. This combination of ceramics for abutment and crown should provide better translucency for the implant restoration than is available with metal abutments and porcelain fused to metal crowns. Customized as well as standardized emergence profiles may be obtained with ceramic abutments. Both will help to fulfill a predictable and consistent concept for successfull implant restorations. This presentation will address the surgeons as well as the prosthodonists. New information on all-ceramic restorations and the implant-abutment-interface and their clinical consequences will be discussed.
